As with all regulations we give a guide to the current rules these can and do change so always check          before you depart. Lastly put your Main DIP lights on.

If travelling through Europe, Each country has their own road rules and customs. Here we try to give you a quick guide.

In the UK they drive on the left. In Europe they drive on the right.

When in a foreign country always add extra caution to you driving and expect the unexpected. Never continue to drive when tired (as a rule of thumb 15min break for every 2 hours). The European speeds limits are often are higher than the UK. All occupants including passengers must wear seat belt whatever the weather. Observe the drink drive rules (Better DON'T drink and drive). As you are probably on holiday your vehicle may be loaded differently so your vehicle will handle differently. Many European countries ban the carrying and use of radar detection devices. in use or not.

Make sure you plan your route before you leave. Should you be involved in an accident, contact your insurance at the earliest opportunity and if possible record the information eg take photographs.

National differences

France

Police strictly enforce speed restrictions (On the spot fines apply often payble in cash only).

Police can remove - confiscate your UK driving licence for breaking the laws.

Motor ways have two speed limits the lower should be observed in the wet.

Priority to the right can apply be warned.

Belguim

Priority to the right can apply be warned. This applies even if your road appears the main road.

Higher fines of 2000Eur plus can apply to exceeding limits.

Netherlands

Tram and busses have total priority over all other traffic if they stop you must stop, do not try to pass by.

Be careful on round’s about generally those on the roundabout have right of way BUT NOT always.
